“the hell do teenage girls need so many shoes for?”

The hell do they need all those shoes for when they become adults?

A suit ? Well, aren’t you fancy!

I had a suit once. I lost it after a particularly eventful  wedding.

Same reason we would so many cars. The first few you can justify with a “use” but after 5 or 6 you can just drop the pret ention and call yourself a collector.

Shoes are cheaper than cars, but I’d still rather the cars

Ask them to get a job over the summer. Then tell them that - if  they were in dependent adults - out of that monthly $1300 paycheck, they would use about $1000 for rent and bills and living out of apartments that are barely fit for human occupation. $300 would be for food. Hopefully that helps them to understand the value of money.

1300 a month for a 16 year old?

hahahahhahahahahhahhahahhaahaa *dies*

i think minimum wage for a 16 year old round here is like 4,50 an hour

that aside tho.... she knows the value of money... thats why when she has some she’s stingy as fuck and wont spend a penny more than she needs too

dad on the other hand has a limitless suply of monies and his are easily spent by her...

What summer job did you have that made $1300 a month? On a good month I made $800 before taxes.

Point her toward a thrift store. Lots of folks around here do that. Not because of economic situation all the time, just for the fun of discovery. You never know what will be there.

I now want to get a job as a chef just so I can steal a uniform and quit.

I made fl 10,- ( €4.50) an hour when I was 16. 20 years ago. For the simplest work on a farm, during summer. Surely your daughter can do better financially, given 2 decades of inflation.

You’re right, most teens start off at minimum wage making around $800 a month.

I was hoping to give an example of a regular dude doing nothing special, making around $12/hr and working 35 ish hours a week.

If they were in this position, like a lot of adults are, they would end up with no savings even if they were single with no kids. Hopefully, they get some perspective on life and they w ould realize that shoe shopping shouldn’t be an expectation on their whim.

Minimum wage is m ore like ~$7.25/hr.

But I was trying to give an example of a regular adult in early 20s, making $21/hr working ~ 35 hours a week; just to give them a perspective . This is what life is for most people.
